The Shapton 120 Glass stone well exceeds knife sharpening standards. This 120 grit sharpening stone makes steel removal effortless and quick, regardless of how dense or resistant the steel. Not only is this stone slow to wear, it can also be entirely used up: it comes mounted on a glass plate, and it can be used as sharpening material until only the glass plate remains. Like every Shapton Glass stone, you only need to slash a small amount of water on it before you start sharpening. The stone is quick drying, so there's little to pick up after once you're done.
As with every water-stone, Shapton glass stones require lapping (flattening) to maintain the sharpening surface in proper shape. They do not need to be soaked in water; simply splash some on and start sharpening.
As with all water hones, Shapton water-stones do wear concave with use and require periodic re-flattening.
