Great General Purpose Razor with a longer handle than the 34C HD

I purchased this for my nephew who is the size and stature of a large sasquatch! He liked my Merkur 34C but found the handle somewhat iddy biddy. This is the longer handle version of the 34C HD. This has the same good all around performance as the shorter handled version and is made out of chrome plated brass so it will last a you long time. We are beginners so this razor was recommended for us to develop some skill. No complaints so far.

First Impressions

My beloved old 38c broke. I loved it so much I bought a new one. Unfortunately my 38c was a much more aggressive razor than the new 38c. It is so mild that even with multiple passes it left a lot of rough stubble. If you need a mild razor then this current version of the 38c might be for you but I am not sure it is going to work for me. I also found that the tightening knob on the bottom of the razor loosens during the shave, I had to tighten it several times.

Complete Newbie - Great experience

As a first safety razor and being someone who has never ever enjoyed shaving, this razor has changed all that. It gives a great shave with a forgiving amount of play in the blade pitch. The weight of the handle is great and effortlessly glides through the stubble. Changing blades is simple and straightforward using a screw closure meaning a firm hold on the blade, ensuring you get a great shave every time. Using the right shaving cream and pre-shave oil certainly helps to get a close shave without irritation. Truly a great first safety razor.

Worth It

It literally arrived in the post, and because I waited 4 days in anticipation of this arrival, I was able to shave right away. I used Derby blades, which in the past were the best for my face. I had a Edwin Jagger for 5 years but the Chrome had peeled away causing skin rips. The weight is very nice and of course the product is immaculately conceived and executed. I did not know the head would screw in from the bottom, and I like it. If you’re at all concerned about the quality or price don’t worry it’s a great product and looks stunning. As I said I used a new Derby blade, and the Fendrihan Charcoal cream, the shave produced no tears or bleeding which has been a consistent issue in the past.

Razor

This razor does the job. I was having trouble with butterfly closure razors so I ordered this make which has one simple screw on head. Nice heft to the handle gives a close shave. I use it on my legs because I am done destroying the environment by purchasing pink plastic disposable razors.

At age 71 I've used quite a few different brands of mug shaving soaps, the Muhle Sea Buckhorn soap is by far the best soap for a great shave for under $20.00! Quality never goes out of style!

Long time use, still going strong
I was gifted a Simpsons 'Special' brush back in 1997. That was 28 years ago. I'm STILL using it today and love the performance for my daily full-face shave. (I use G.F. And I have to APPLAUD Frendrihan for bringing together such absolutely wonder items. Anyhow, just to check the difference, I am still considering a Simpsons Trafalgar T1 synthetic fibre brush. Hopefully before the new year.

I got 20 shaves from a Merkur blade in a Muhle R89 razor
Amazing. It still shaves but I wanted to try the other blades in my 50-blade samper pack. That one blade does not want to get dull. The other blades I have tried with my new razor are Muhle, Tiger and Astra blue box (Russia). The Merkur blade is the clear winner of those 3.

This was my first time buying the Paisley. I’ve used Windsor and it lasted well over a year (I’m not a heavy sweater or have strong scent). This was very citrusy and full of patchouli, it’s truly Lovely and I will buy it again. So still a great day to day product but will return to the oil after this is used.

If you're looking for a stainless steel straight razor, I highly recommend buying this specific razor, or the Dovo Encina. I now have both, they're the exact same blade bank from back in the early 2000's the scales are so beautiful, the images displayed do not do them justice. I wanted to try this and got the introductory model. Very impressed with how it shaves. I have sensitive skin that nicks easily, but this has not been the case with one blade. Follow the directions included with the razor and you’ll get a pretty close shave. It’s rapidly becoming my go to razor. I...I wanted to try this and got the introductory model. I have one suggestion for the manufacturer - the handle can feel a bit slippery when shaving soap gets on it so I have to rinse it more often for control while shaving. I might try putting some waterproof medical tape with some surface grip around the handle to see if that helps.

I finally took the plunge and bought a R41 after countless hours of reading online reviews. The razor has a reputation for being aggressive, and let me tell you, it lives up to it. I've been wet shaving for over 10...I finally took the plunge and bought a R41 after countless hours of reading online reviews. The razor has a reputation for being aggressive, and let me tell you, it lives up to it. But it's also incredibly efficient, even if it can be a bit intimidating at first. I've been wet shaving for over 10 years, but my first few head shaves with the R41 were a different kind of challenge. While my first shave was a little painful, I can already feel my technique improving with each use. Before this, I've relied on the three-blade Leaf razor for quick, smooth, and irritation-free shaves. But I wanted to try a more classic tool and use a single double-edge blade. I'm finding that the shaves get better with each pass, and using Gillette Platinum blades seems to give me more use per blade. While the Leaf is the clear winner for speed, I have a feeling that once I get the hang of the R41, I'll be reaching for it more often. I would recommend the R41, but as with all things in the world of wet shaving, your personal experience will vary.

40 laps on canvas, and 60 on a leather strop, and it was ready to shave. After honing, it was smooth as butter and no wobble, or warps to the blade. Really a beautiful piece of craftsmanship.
