This razor has excellent feel - it's a pleasure to hold it. It's heavier than most razors I have but also very well balanced. It is a pleasure to look at. It is also the most aggressive razor I have (I only have five). I think this is because the Joris curves the blade more than my other razors. It has been an adjustment to use this razor and I've found that shaving cream applied with shaving soap helps. I also changed the holding angle I use when shaving. Although it's a little more work to use I have found the effort, and the result, ultimately rewarding. It's a fine instrument.
I am fairly new to DE, having used a Gillette Mach 3 for years. My first DE was a Merkur Futur. It was a learning experience but I liked the adjustable head. The Joris, however, just felt like a superior instrument. The balance of the Joris was better, with more weight toward the handle. The head was smaller and allowed better maneuverability around tougher areas (e.g. Under the nose.) The Joris is a more aggressive razor than the Merkur but I had no problem adjusting to it. Simply perfect.
