I have other Kaweco products and really like them for their stubby but very practical, pocketable and comfortable pens. This pencil is another great example. With a 5B lead (I think I saw that somewhere), I was wondering if it would be too soft and smeary but it isn't, unless the side of your hand is constantly rubbing the page as you draw/write, but that can happen with any pencil. If I hadn't seen something say it has a 5B lead, I would have guessed something more like a 3B, but still good and dark. It has a nice solid heft to it and feels good in your hand. It reminds me of holding a pastel ... except far heavier. Just as a pastel is not too short to hold for drawing, this is not too short either. In fact it is easily an inch and a half longer than a pastel. It is ideal for sketching, but also works well for writing. I don't care for H or HB leads that much as they are too light and subtle. This gets you a nice graphite line down on the paper. If you want it narrow, use the tip. If you would like your line a bit wider, just slant it a bit. If you use it for a sketch, you can also hold it at a very sharp angle and shade in your drawing. Buy some paper with more tooth (irregular surface) on it and the line it creates will have more charm and life. The clutch push button is very solid. If you unscrew it so it comes off, invert it and you have a lead sharpener. Just tap it clean after sharpening before putting it back together again. Also, as with any thicker lead, if you draw and constantly change angles to the paper, not only will you get more interesting lines, but it also self-sharpens to some degree. All in all, I am very happy with this. Carpenters will love it also (I do a bit of that as well). Although I checked and can see you can buy replacement leads on the net, it would be great if this site sold them also. Perhaps they will add them eventually.
