Boker Extra Hollow Ground Straight Razor 4/8", White Bone Scales

Please notify me when this item becomes available
  • Crafted by hand from white bone and carbon steel, Boker's Extra Hollow Ground 4/8" straight razor is an unusual and beautiful implement. Once a favored size for barbers and professional shavers because of its manoeuvrability, 4/8" razors are now a rarely-seen commodity, and hotly sought because of it.

Ground with a round head and extra hollow, this model was one of Boker's best-selling when first introduced more than 100 years ago, and it remains an excellent razor for modern shavers.

Expert craftsmen since 1869, Boker has a proud history of manufacturing premium razors. Emblazoned with the traditional Boker emblem on the scales, this razor is serial-numbered and comes in a gift box with a certificate of authenticity.

    Entirely handmade in Solingen, Germany.

Excellent addition. May become my daily straight.

This is my third straight after a 6/8 TI La Legende with bone scales and the Feather Artist DX (replaceable blades) with teak scales. I discovered in the meantime that plastic scales were not for me (dont like the flex). The bone scales on this model are sturdy, well finished, and attention to detail is good. The carbon steel blade is great quality to my eye although a few weeks use cannot conclude beyond that. The extra hollow ground is noticeable to the eye but has minimal impact on my shave at this point, so no need to be concerned for those used to a standard hollow ground. I sought this razor because of the 4/8 blade and the relative difficulty I was having with a 6/8 blade under the nose. I am happy with the result, while the difference between the 4/8 and the 6/8 is not so great as to make shaving the rest of the face more difficult. In fact, I find the 4/8 is a comfortable size even though Im not a smaller format myself (61, 186 lbs). The noticeable difference compared to the 6/8 TI is the balance of the razor: while the 6/8 is a bit blade heavy, which I enjoy, this 4/8 is understandably less so. Finally, the TI was useable for a few shaves right out of the box, while this one absolutely needs sharpening before use. Would buy again.
